Local Attractions
The town is well known for its 120 km of world class mountain bike trails that attract mountain bikers from all over the world. Derby hosted a round of the Enduro World Series Mountain Bike Championships in 2017 which was so successful the EWS returned in March, 2019 to sample World Trail’s latest (and best yet) offerings, including Kumma Gutza, Air-Ya-Garn, Roxanne and Kingswall. Derby was due to host EWS again in 2021, but it has been postponed until 2023 due to Covid.
Derby is also a popular spot for tourists on the way to the East Coast with free camping available behind the pub and along the river. Motorbike riders particularly enjoy this windy scenic route.
Besides mountain bike riding, Derby offers fishing and gem fossicking. There are also many Tasmanian tourist attractions nearby such as the Legerwood Memorial Tree Carvings, Little Blue Lake, Local Wineries and Breweries, Bridestowe Lavender Farm and Pyengana Cheese Factory.
Whilst tin mining is long gone in Derby, there is still a wealth of information to be found about the town’s history in the Old Schoolhouse Museum and the Ringarooma Church Museum.
