Originally from the mainland, Owners Brooke and Sean McDonald moved to Tasmania for it’s beautiful scenery and a more relaxed lifestyle.
We have both lived in small communities in the past and are enjoying being part of a warm and supportive community. We look forward to welcoming tourists and mountain bikers to our unique village and providing good old fashioned hospitality.
The original Dorset Hotel was a single story weather board building, it was replaced by the current building in 1911 and withstood the flood that destroyed much of the town in 1929. The pub has a photo wall describing the town’s rich tin mining history and the devastating effect of the 1929 flood.
The pub is currently being extensively renovated. We have put in a beer garden that seats 50 and installed a commercial kitchen. The bar and dining rooms have been painted and refurnished. We began serving meals in May 2018. The pub currently offers 8 newly renovated rooms with 2 shared bathrooms and a breakfast room. The new roof is on and the pub has now been painted. Next on the wish list is new bathrooms for the accommodation, to go in over winter!
